When I was a kid, my mother rarely purchased sugary cereal. Not because she thought the health benefits of Rice or Corn Chex were outstanding, because she thought the fewer sweets she fed me, the less hyper (read: talkative)  I would be. (Sorry mom, it didn’t work.)  And let’s face it,  with the amount of sugar I poured on those bland cereals to make them taste palatable to a 12-year old amounted to more than the sugar content in one bowl of Golden Grahams.

Now that I have kids of my own, we eat fairly healthy, but cereal is one place I’m happy to let them pick out what they want. It’s usually along the lines of Frosted Flakes, Peanut Butter Capt’n Crunch or Cocoa Pebbles (no judging here people!), but occasionally they will reach for a box of Frosted Mini Wheats or Yogurt Cheerios.

That being said, my favorite cereal is Fruit Loops. I can’t figure out why a cereal that can (and often does) leave the roof of my mouth raw is so appealing, but I love it. I didn’t get it often growing up, but when I did it was always somewhat of a treat.

Today’s question is: what is your favorite cereal? Is there a particular cereal that you love from your childhood? Tell me…

    Cocoa puffs!!!

  2. I’m gonna go with Frosted Mini Wheats. How semi-healthy of me.

Too funny! Growing up with the same for me – no sugar cereal, yet my mom let me put as much sugar on it as I wanted. It never really made sense, but that’s what we did. I would have to say my favorite is Lucky Charms. I could eat a bowl of those 2x a day if I had to. In face, when I was pregnant with Alyssa, I craved a bowl before bed every night. To this day, it’s one of her favorites too!
