Recently, Google decided it wanted to help out users by separating emails into categories using new tabs. But if you’re anything like me, you don’t WANT to separate emails into separate tabs. (Thanks Google, but if I wanted to segment emails, I would have set up labels and filters. Oh yea, I ALREADY HAVE.)

So, for those of you who are a bit challenged when it comes to settings, here’s how to remove the “social” and “promotions” tabs from your gmail inbox:

First, click the round spoke-looking object next to the right/left arrows in the upper right corner. You should be presented with a drop-down menu like the one shown below. Click the “settings” option.

This will take you to the “settings” section of your account. Next, choose “inbox” (see below:)

When you click inbox you will see a list of “categories”. UNCLICK social & promotions. (leave everything else as is).

Scroll to the bottom of the page and hit “SAVE CHANGES” and VOILA – tabs are removed!

Hope this helps.
