If you’re looking for a quick lunch or dinner, but taste and atmosphere are important – Saturn Grill is the answer. It’s not your traditional sit-down restaurant, but it isn’t fast food either. The menu is a variety of salads, sandwiches, homemade soups, pastas and some amazing desserts. I happen to work close to the Nichols Hills location (there is also a store in the Quailbrook Center at the corner of Meridian & the Kilpatrick Turnpike), so I often visit with friends for a lunchtime treat.

My favorite thing about Saturn Grill is their simple but delicious menu. From the meatloaf sandwich to Thai broccoli salad, everything is extremely fresh and well prepared. My favorite dish (ok, I have two) is the Meatloaf Sandwich. A VERY generous slab of meatloaf is seared on a cook top and served with sliced tomatoes and mayo on warm flat bread. It comes with a side of potato salad that is my absolute favorite.

Another reason to try Saturn Grill is their price. Nothing on the menu exceeds $9.50, and that includes the Spicy Steak Sandwich (thinly sliced beef, melted Swiss, grilled onions and BBQ sauce served on flat bread). They even offer a “Saturn Ring” which is half a chicken salad sandwich, cup of soup of the day, cookie and a drink for $9.50. (Can you say bargain?) Word of caution: If you aren’t a fan of kicked-up chicken salad, you might not care for theirs. It’s not your mommas chicken salad – it has a bit of heat to it. You’ve been warned.

If dessert is your thing (and those of you that know me know that dessert IS my thing), then you won’t be disappointed with their selection. Choose from cookies, cupcakes, brownies, cheesecake, cannolis and much more. On my visit yesterday, my good friend insisted we order dessert (I wasn’t going to get any  - but she insisted. She’s pregnant and the baby was adamant about cookies. Who am I to argue with a fetus?) She asked our fabulous order taker extraordinaire what the best cookie was and he quickly responded with THIS:

Pumpkin Cookie with Cream Cheese Frosting

Let me just tell you – he hit the nail on the head with this one. We actually ordered two cookies- a peanut butter and this. The pumpkin cookie kicked ASS. It was super moist and almost cake-like and the frosting- IT’S CREAM CHEESE FROSTING PEOPLE. It was delish. (The peanut butter cookie was ok – but it needed some chocolate IMHO.)

As if reasonable prices, fresh food and great desserts weren’t enough- Saturn Grill also serves an assortment of wines and beers should you so desire. If you do stop by, make sure to ask about the Daily Specials – because you never know what fabulous creation they have dreamed up.

Store hours are 11am – 9pm Monday through Saturday (closed on Sundays. I like that) and they do accept call-ahead orders.
