It doesn’t seem possible that today is four months since I launched my 40 x 40 list of things I wanted to accomplish before my 40th birthday. If you haven’t checked out the original list, click here.
The good news is, I am checking items off slowly but surely! The bad news is: I am revising a few of my items. More on that later.
When I first created this list and posted it on the blog, a co-worker of my husbands asked him “Have you checked out this list your wife posted online? I hope you have a fat wallet.” Oblivious to the “list”, GFB jumped on the site and started perusing the items I had posted. (Knowing hubs, he probably broke out in a cold sweat as he estimated line by line how much this list might end up costing.) A month or so later while having dinner with some friends, I happened to mention the list to a friend and I was having a hard time remembering how many items I had actually marked off. He casually interjected and said “Four. You’ve checked off four items.” I was quite surprised. He then began to tell me he was keeping track – and just might have a few surprises up his sleeve.
Fast forward a few weeks. It was a Friday afternoon and GFB had just arrived home. I was busy trying to figure out dinner when he said “Hey, I have a little something to tell you. You and I are going to the Thunder game Wednesday night.” For those of you that know me, I am a huge basketball fan, so going to a game is a treat in itself. Except, we weren’t just going to the game to sit in any old seat.
Enter No. 6 on the list: Sit Court side at an OKC Thunder game.
When he explained that we had tickets sitting ON THE FLOOR I could hardly believe it. Yea, technically they weren’t “court side” but THEY WERE FLOOR SEATS PEOPLE! Floor seats as in, there would be some camera man or photographer sitting at my feet. I’m certain I smiled for an hour straight just thinking about it.
After the initial excitement wore off, my next thought was “HOLY S#*& WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR!?” Because a cute t-shirt and skinny jeans was NOT going to cut it. So, the hunt was on for the perfect outfit. I spent an evening at the mall, sending SOS tweets to my fashion friends Rachael, Susan, Rachel, Cher, Lindsay and others to help pull together a suitable ensemble for the big occasion… I think I did OK 🙂
It was a spectacular evening and might even be the highlight of my entire list. Thanks for the great memories GFB.
