GFB and I have both worked near the Classen Circle area for quite some time now, and I have had fun trying the new restaurants that have popped up along Western near CHK. A few months ago, someone mentioned how amazing the food is at The Wedge, and sadly enough, I had never been.
A couple of months ago, hub and I were treated to a date night and decided to head over and check out their much talked-about pizza.
Once seated, we were served a small bowl of spiced walnuts and an appetizer of cantaloupe- and watermelon-wrapped prosciutto. Heavenly. I preferred the watermelon, as it was a bit sweeter than the cantaloupe (which normally isn’t the case). Our server offered up a great list of beverages, including quite a few beers. I told her my preferences on flavors and she suggested the Trois Pistoles. She hit it OUT OF THE PARK. This beer was spectacular. (If you like Belgian Ales – head to your local liquor establishment and pick one up. You won’t be disappointed.) I would have drank the whole bottle myself, but GFB insisted on sharing.
We perused the menu and I selected the Napoli, while GFB choose the American Pie. Both were amazing. The crusts were very well done – thin and slightly crunch on the outside. The size of each pie was great too. One person could easily share a pie and be content. (That is, if you are willing to share!) After the pizza and beer, we were treated to their signature dessert – real gelato. I need a whole separate post about the effects of Gelato on GFB, but let me just say the Dulche de Leche we tried was spectacular!
We have since been many times to enjoy the wonderful assortment of pies, as well as their famous meatballs, and this has become one of my families favorite restaurants in OKC. They play old TMC movies on the TV’s, the ambiance is lovely and I love the saying on the wall as you walk in:
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”. – Virginia Woolf
My oldest daughter said one evening as we sat at the bar watching pizzas being made, “I love this place. I could just sit here all night and hang out.” Its warm, inviting and the wait staff is superb. I give the Wedge in OKC a 10!
